A good overview is more than a number. Ledger Live brings the moving parts of self-custody into one calm, considered workspace, so you can check what you hold, understand recent activity, and make informed choices at your own pace. Here are a few useful principles to keep in mind as you explore.
01
Start with a clear picture
Your portfolio view gathers balances from the accounts you choose to manage, making it easier to understand how your assets are distributed. The timeline helps you notice movement over a selected period, while the asset list breaks the total into individual holdings. Values can change quickly and displayed estimates may differ between services. Use a portfolio overview as a helpful snapshot, not as a promise of future performance or a substitute for your own research.
02
Keep control in your hands
With self-custody, you remain responsible for authorizing transactions and protecting your recovery phrase. A hardware wallet is designed to keep private keys isolated from internet-connected devices, and transaction details should always be checked on the trusted device screen before approval. Never share your recovery phrase with anyone, enter it into a website, or store it in an online document. Anyone who obtains it may be able to access your assets, and support teams will never need it.
03
Review every transaction
Before sending crypto, check the asset, destination address, network, and any applicable fees. Addresses can be long and visually similar, so verify the entire address using a trusted method rather than relying only on its first and last characters. A small test transfer may be appropriate when you are unfamiliar with a destination. Blockchain transactions are generally irreversible once confirmed. Take time to understand what you are signing, especially when a third-party application requests permissions.
04
Explore at your own pace
Accounts, networks, and decentralized services each have their own features and risks. Learn how a network works before moving assets, and confirm that the receiving account supports the exact asset and network you intend to use. If you explore staking or other optional services, read the conditions carefully, including lockup periods, validator risks, fees, and how rewards are calculated. This workspace is a starting point for learning; it is not financial, tax, or investment advice.
05
Build a steady routine
Consider setting a regular time to review your accounts rather than reacting to every short-term price move. Check that your device is genuine, keep its software current through official channels, and make sure your recovery plan is stored safely offline. If something seems unexpected, pause before approving a prompt or transaction and verify it independently. Good security habits are simple, repeatable steps that protect your privacy while leaving you in charge of when and how you use your assets.
A note about this preview. Figures and activity shown in this interface are illustrative sample data for demonstration purposes. This preview does not connect to a wallet or blockchain, and it cannot send, receive, or exchange cryptocurrency. Always use the official Ledger Live application and verify the authenticity of your device, software, and destination addresses.
